Bona Heiberger Obituary

Bona M. Heiberger, 86, of 128 Melody Road, St. Marys, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, February 5, 2024.

She was born on December 25, 1937 in Bukovo, Yugoslavia, a daughter of the late Pando and Ilinka Srbinovski Djorevich.

Bona immigrated to America with her family on June 4, 1952 from North Macedonia (the former Republic of Yugoslavia).

On June 7, 1958, at St. Marys Church, she married the late Edwin J. Heiberger, who preceded her in death on September 29, 2014. Together they shared more than 56 years of marriage.

She retired from St. Marys Carbon Company in 2000 after 44 1/2 years of service. 

Bona loved tending to her flower and vegetable gardens and spending time with her family. She will be fondly remembered for the delicious pies that she made regularly for her family and friends. She especially looked forward to weekly outings with her special friend and sister-in-law, Sally Heiberger.

She is survived by three children: Cheryl (Don) Ruffner of Kersey, Amy (John Hasselman) VonArx of St. Marys, and Michael (Joe Schroeder) of St. Marys. 

Bona is also survived by two grandsons; Timothy (Christine) Ruffner and Christopher (Leanne) Ruffner, as well as five great-grandchildren: Brianne, Marissa, Jacob, Anthony and Rocco.

Bona is also survived by two sisters-in-law; Marlene (Walter) Zebker, and Sandra (Thomas) Farley and by a brother-in-law, Bernard (Sally) Heiberger, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Bona was preceded in death by a grandson, Danial Ruffner in 2013 and by a sister, Kita Georgevich in 2021.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Bona M. Heiberger will be celebrated on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Marys Catholic Church, 315 Church Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Fr. Thomas More Sikora, OSB, as celebrant.

Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Marys Ambulance Association or to the Crystal Fire Department.
